City Pride Detroit
Overview:
-The Motor City Pride Scholarship (MCPS) was established in 2011 by the Motor City Ragers and City Pride Detroit to encourage graduating high school seniors to pursue higher education in the City of Detroit.
-Eligible institutions include: Wayne State University, the University of Detroit Mercy, and the College for Creative Studies.
-The MCPS will cover the recipient’s cost of books for his/her first semester at one of the eligible institutions.
-Application Deadline is June 28, 2013. Recipient(s) of the Motor City Pride Scholarship will be notified by July 31, 2013.
Eligibility:
-Applicants must have a cumulative high school Grade Point Average (GPA) of at least 3.25*
-Applicants must be enrolled and attending one of the three eligible institutions next fall.
-Applicants must demonstrate passion and love for Detroit, and also, an unyielding commitment to the City’s future.
Additional Requirements:
-In addition to filling out the application, applicant must submit a minimum one-page personal statement in response to the following questions:
1. Why should you be considered for this scholarship?
2. How you will benefit from this scholarship?
3. What do you love most about the City of Detroit?
4. How do you think you will benefit from attending college in Detroit?
5. What can you do to help Detroit?
-Applicants must submit a copy of their high school transcript as proof of eligibility.
-The scholarship recipient(s) will also be required to complete a minimum of 20 hours of volunteer service over the course of the semester at one or more of the several Detroit organizations that aim to make a positive difference in the City (additional information will be sent after award notification).
Application Instructions:
-Applicants must fill out the application and satisfy all requirements to be eligible for the scholarship.
-Applicants must complete and submit the application form and their one-page personal statement to City Pride Detroit at P.O. Box 321003, Detroit, MI 48232-1003, or to mcps@citypridedetroit.org, along with all of the appropriate transcripts and documents by the June 28, 2013 deadline.
-Recipient(s) of the Motor City Pride Scholarship will be chosen after all applications have been reviewed. The selected student(s) will then be contacted by July 31, 2013 with further information.

*Applicants who do not satisfy the 3.25 requirement are encouraged to apply as other factors will be considered during the selection process that can compensate for one's GPA.
